Find a beech stand or oak stand producing nuts and sit tight. One will likely come in for food given they live to eat. Listen for claws scraping trees and branches breaking in the canopy. Go slow if you begin stalking in on a tree foraging bear. The slightest noise has them retreating or hiding which makes walking in on one difficult.
Depending on food abundance bears alter denning activity. During low food years they’ll den early. Which means hunt food resources early and consistently.
