Anyone know that this thing is? About 4 feet off the ground. Post holding it is grown into the tree so it has been there a while. Spool spins. Maybe 200 feet off a gas line.

Probably a makeshift cable pulling rack? When doing home security systems before they all became wireless, we would set up spools on a rack and pull multiple wires at a time...just a guess...

Thanks. Both thoughts are plausible. It is about 3/4 of a mile from a road and 200 or so feet off a gas line. We initially thought antler catcher but the mesh size seems too large to hold food.

The chicken wire makes me think it might be some sort of a rack trap????

I thought about a feeder as well but wondered what kind of feed would stay inside the chicken wire...certainly not pellets or corn. ??

Gillnet reel? Stretch one of those through the woods and you’d probably have a couple bucks in the morning

This looks like a compost tumbler .Just don't know why you would have one in the woods. The chicken wire would indicate light use .Could you tumble acorns or other nuts in it ?.
