Years ago I was bear hunting (never saw a bear) but there was bear sign in the area...this was also an area New Hampshire that had some old WWll CCC camps (civilian construction corps)z
I was making my way back to the road for lunch and was poking around the old abandoned camp when I spotted a cardboard box in perfect shape. Realizing it couldn’t have been there very long, I walked over to see what it was. Well it was empty except for a heavy duty plastic bag. There was an address label on the box from a funeral home as well...on the outside if the box was a name...Edith Wilson. I had to believe that someone had scattered human remains/ashes there in the old CCC camp and left the box in the woods...:D

That is a weird one. I wonder what the significance was with Edith Wilson..... presumably she had some connection to the camp. It’s a bit odd that the ash scatterer didn’t take the box away with them or burn it or whatever. It’s pretty cool that you remember the name. I bet you think of Edith Wilson every time you hunt that area

Not sure how weird it is. Back when Loring Air Force Base was around, they would fly B52 bombers are tree top level, especially out west of Portage and up in the Big Black. You didn’t hear them until they were right on top of you and then WOW

At the same time, when icefishing out on the waterway sometimes they would drop down and buzz you. I believe you could see the pilots half the time. They did it for fun to scare the crap out of you.

Guys shooting at each other with machine guns and rifles.

I guess I was about 12 or so and hunting woodchucks with a friend. We were on government land that was in back of a flood control dam, which was open to the public for hunting and fishing. Quite a big area several miles long. There were some small fields bordered by many old stone walls and the foundations of several homes that were moved when the dam was put in. We were sneaking along this stone wall in the morning, paying attention toward the field, when we saw a handful of soldiers across the field on the other side of a stone wall moving along slowly. All of a sudden a machine gun opened up about 50 ft in front of us shooting across the field at the soldiers. They took cover and started shooting back. We got down in back of the stone wall and someone yelled "Cease Fire!" Someone had seen us. They were National Guard soldiers training and of course were using blanks. The roads in and out were all posted with signs we found out later. We had come in from the back side and down a ridge. They were not happy we were there and that I had live ammo in my 22 magnum rifle, I think it was. They demanded our names, questioned us and escorted us out of the area. I told my father when he got home from work that evening. We never heard any more about it.

I had a ladder stand on some public land in southern NH. While sitting in the stand I saw something hanging in a tree out in front of me. Upon closer observation it turned out to be a human arm. After contacting the PD I was told someone had committed suicide using a car battery and dynamite over the weekend close to my stand. I took the stand out!

I’ve been discouraged deer hunting before, but never that badly.

Windham, ME - Hunt well north of here!
In a very flat section of woods I found an up rooted spruce, where one side of the root ball was about 10-12 feet up in the air. On that very corner was a moose shed. I was walking down through the woods still hunting and I see this antler up ahead really high and figured it was a moose standing there. As I got closer I could see it was a shed on the ground that got lifted when the tree fell over. I had to climb up off the ground to retrieve it.

I guess the person held on to the explosive.....car battery? Why would you do that to yourself....what happened to the rest of them?

I have lots of questions. Pretty sad.

The story was the guy walked into the woods with his guitar, dynamite and a car battery. Somehow hooked the battery to the dynamite and laid over the explosive and detenated it. Police said that most of his body parts were in the trees. The piece of woods was directly behind his house but he did walk in quite aways
