Do your remember if the number matched the rifle on his knife? Yours looks to be 2500? on the blade.

The top knife I posted, was made by Larry Benoit. He’s a legend. Did you read his books, especially the one, “In the beginning”? He was about seven years old when he tracked down a big old Mountain Buck and shot it in the eye the 22 short at 10 yards! I could go on and on , but all of you pretty much know about his life, books, and record as a Deer Hunter and tracker.

The first knife is a utility knife, one made by him to be used as a tool. Solid hunk of steel with a Deer hide leather wrap, doesn’t get any more basic and utilitarian then that. Just like the one he wore on his side. No surprises that’s what you were going to get, something made by “Him”, that’s the great thing about them!

The second one was more of a commemorative type model with the stag handle. He put a lot more time into that one and did a pretty nice job I think. Still, the beauty of it is, it was made by him , has a cartridge that he killed a deer with, and an antler tine from one of his deer.

You either value these things or you don’t, it’s about Larry Benoit, the man, not so much about the craftsmanship.

The inflated prices are something that occurred these days, not really so much when Larry was making them.

If you want a beautifully made knife with the ultimate in craftsmanship, beauty and style buy one from Joe Schmo, the artist, whoever he is.😃

Not all those handles are from deer Larry shot. Someone out there has a couple knives made from chainsaw bars and sheds that a sawed off , bit “husky” NH Hunter found and donated to him. 😜

I had a friend who owned a small engine shop. They usually just tossed the old bars. I turkey hunter with Lane for a couple years , when he came down I sent the bars and some sheds I had laying around in the garage home with him.

Never knew they were made from chainsaw bars. I thought he was using recycled high carbon steel from old farm equipment, railroad parts etc.

Years ago I sold tons of railroad spikes to folks making knives and all sorts of other things out of them.

The knife and sheath I have that were made by Larry also match the gun serial number. From a knife quality standpoint, they are crude and wouldn't carry a high price if not made by Larry and in demand. Almost any whitetail hunter from the northeast would appreciate having a piece of deer hunting history. I know I do.

The jackets been marked down several times. I’m trying to follow along to see what it sells for but I’m not sure you really ever know because someone could submit an offer that gets accepted.

The 401K retirement investment is crumbling ! :ROFLMAO:

Gotta love it when someone is asking an overblown rip off price for something , and still tacks on a $15 shipping charge.

Now it’s been re-listed as a straight up auction. Any predictions for the final bid? 806DD824-30B2-4727-A9BD-A768682AE5EE.jpeg

I’m not a collector of anything per se, but thanks to this thread I found myself on ebay and stumbled upon a 1975 signed copy of his first book. I bid it up once to see if there were any auto bids and realized thereafter it had less than 10 minutes to go. Ended up with it for $50.

I bought two from Larry in 2003 at a visit with him at his house. One for me and one for my best man, I was getting married the next week. They were 200 a piece then.
