Striper Fishing Action

Took a couple of trips down to the shore this spring and have been doing really good fishing off the beach. I got my personal best striper (44", 35 lbs) and my son got his first off the surf and his biggest(42", 28lbs). Didn't get a pic of my big one in all the craziness going on. We got into a blitz where we were catching one after the other, with big bass boiling and splashing everywhere! We caught over a dozen fish each between 34" and 44" one day, and had many others and big fish pull off. Guy next to us got one, had to be 50". Glad my son got to experience action like that off the surf, doesn't happen too often!
Some hardcore surf rats next to us screaming at the top of their lungs, "THIS IS WHAT WE LIVE FOR!!. Everyone hooked up with big fish. Quite a scene!

We had a great day. Went back down yesterday and fished from 6pm to 1am and didn't get one hit.

The good fishing was on Thursday evening I spoke to a guy who fished the next evening Friday he said nothing.

I wish I had thought that when I was there "yesterday" and it was great that it would not be good the next day or days! lol

I remember when I was young my Dad used to go surf fishing for stripers along the Plum Island shore of MA. He used to say “you have to be there at just the right time!”
All those years of striper fishing and he got rewarded one night on the full moon…he cast his plug into a perfect, breaking wave which was back lit by the full moon! He saw the 40lb striper attack his plug through that translucent wave and the fight was on! He landed his biggest striper that beautiful night!

The stripers are showing strong here too. Smaller average size than L.B.'s. As of today the slot limit changed from 28 - 35 " to 28 - 31 ".

I’m thinking about taking a trip to the Cape Cod Canal this summer heard it’s really great fishing.

Good thing is the big ones are there all summer so there’s always a chance, here in New Jersey most have left by mid summer

We have bass pretty much all year if you count the winrer hold overs in the rivers. May thru November they're in the coastal waters. Harder to target from shore. Most of the bigger fish are caught using live bait from boats.
