We had -18 yesterday morning when I went to work at 6:30. Windchills made the "feels like" temps at -41 according to weather channel.

I find it bizarre that the same media who played up this "arctic blast" all week is the same media that tells us about melting ice caps and global warming. Am I to believe ice melts at a colder temperature in the Arctic? 😂🤣🧐

There’s a reason Global Warming was rebranded as Climate Change. The new brand is a bigger box to fit more stuff in.

Ah yes, change the language. Just like a short barreled rifle some how “identifies” as a pistol. 😂🤣😜

I don't know shit about shit, but whatever they want to call it, or whatever is causing it, my sugaring seasons are getting wacky and on average, we boil earlier and end sooner than any of the years my father and grandfather wrote on the sugarhouse walls. You'd never know it though, based on Saturday morning. I went out to the woodpile to block some logs when the thermometer said -22 and when the wind whipped across the field I could feel the cold coming right through my pants. It wasn't very good for my self confidence.

You should’ve checked your zipper Pete. Lol. It was cold. 50 degrees coming this Friday. Not got for the apple crops for this fall.

We seem to get 2-4 inches every other day or so. More of a pain than anything. Bigger storm predicted for the weekend. No real warm temps in sight

There’s no question that things are different now than when I was a kid, winter in VT starts later and ends earlier and for the most part is much less snowy. By my calculations we are currently at a WSI of 2 for this area. Maybe it’s just a cyclical thing and eventually it goes back the other way but things are very different.

I don't disagree at all. I was being a smart ass about the arctic blast. Like you, I'm not sure if it's just a cycle although I'm sure nations around the globe puking out coal smoke, auto smoke, fracking, or whatever resource is being used is not good for the atmosphere or the planet. I think 99% of the people agree based off what you said about winters here in the NE. Where things tend to come off the rails is the discussion on how to fix it.

I never really get into discussions about this stuff, but since this is an online forum, so I'm anonymous and can type things I'd never say to people in person, its required that I get mouthy.

I just hate how politicians can polarize things like this.

If we were playing Family Feud (anyone remember that one? Richard Dawson kissing every chick on the show like a creeper...) and the survey question was:

"Top 1000 things that science can explain and correct - until asshole politicians acting in their own self interest polarize and f*ck up"

My first 2 guesses would be environmental science and wildlife management/biology.

I'm sure most people would agree that putting less burnt shit into the atmosphere is good. Maybe it changes winter back to "the good ol' days" and maybe the trend continues warmer for 10,000 years anyway. But regardless of what the ending is, we should probably TRY to put less shit in the atmosphere. But it doesn't mean you have to drive a Prius, vote for liberal candidates, and dance with your beaded friends in downtown Brattleboro. Just put on a sweatshirt and turn the thermostat down from 72 to 68 in the winter. (Or whatever your small compromise of choice is) Its just being rational.

Windham, ME - Hunt well north of here!
I read an interesting study and overlay regarding earth wobble/Milankovitch solar cycles Some would argue, that is the cause of global warming. My buddy who is a meteorologist said no one is interested in it, because it’s not “sexy”. Of course despite it all being right in our face, some don’t believe it is causing what we are seeing today.

I don’t disagree things aren’t quite the way they used to be compared to our recent past. I use the term recent in relative terms because human presence is but a side note in the history of the planet. Our record keeping is merely a drop of water in the bucket of history.
Regardless of the cause, there are some nefarious entities trying to gather personal gain from the overarching cause. We should be leery of grand plans that lack palpable and measurable results.

Local example, I saw solar panels on the north side of a barn in Northern VT last week. Someone likely walked away from that deal with more money than those panels will ever produce. That’s literally carbon negative, regardless of whether you’re into the carbon shell game or not.

I wonder where all these solar panels will end up at the end of their usage? How about all the batteries that will power the cars that ironically will benefit the auto unions and those invested in them (AKA politicians)? Imagine if you get to write the laws, see the committee studies for financial data/benefit and can invest in it lower and earlier than the general public. Welcome to US politics regardless of party affiliation. That’s why I can’t understand how we are a nation decide about R’s and D’s. I think it’s cute when people argue amongst each other as which is better. Who represents you if you believe in “my body my choice, you love who you love and you get to own as many and whatever firearm you want as long as you’re not a criminal to defend those rights” Seems like a citizen without representation doesn’t it?

Sounds like I should polish up my resume and get in the solar business while the gettin' is hot....

Seriously though, what a colossal and unnecessary failure that is.

Friends in South Carolina can’t find an insurance company to cover their home due to a roof top solar panel. Too many hail storms damaging them

A Maine based farmland trust pushed for green energy. Now they are concerned that too much farmalnd is coming out of production as it is more lucrative than farming

The largest deer yard in Caribou was flattened for a solar array

The big deer yard off of I-95 in Medway is now a solar array

If some get their way, every hill between Patten and Houlton will have windmills to power Massachusetts

But we can’t have a 50 foot wide power corridor from Quebec Hydro to Massachusetts

Liberalism is a mental disorder and they are a hypocritical bunch.
