Have a Remington 1100 20 ga with interchangeble chokes and was wondering if modified choke is what I should use to shoot a rifled slug out of it.thanks.

When we were kids all we had to hunt with were our Dad’s shotguns…a Franchi semi-auto was responsible for my brother’s 1st deer in VT.
I killed a buck in MA (a long time ago) with my Remington 11-48, 30” full choke barrel.
A modified choke with a rifles slug will kill a deer…keep the shots under 50yds.
There are many alternatives in todays gun market…look for something used with a slug barrel? Or buy a slug barrel for the 1100?

Thanks..Close range was the purpose of using it.I use to have a 12 ga. Mossberg combo with interchangeable barrels and used it for deer and turkey.Kicked like a mule.Stopped turkey hunting so I sold it.Just thinking of another option.

Open cylinder is the choke for rifled slugs. Hope you have one . Just think about it . You are firing a solid piece of lead . You dont want to shoot it down a tapered barrel . Obviously a rifled barrel is the best way to go firing saboted slugs . A smoothbore slug barrel is actually an open cylinder barrel with rifle sites on it. They are not tapered . The only thing you can realistically use for deer with a modified or full choke is buckshot . But a lot of places has banned it . So check the regs wherever you are going hunting . Personally I dont like using it at all . Even with a full choke using 3 inch magnum 00buck , its only good for 35 yards tops
