Your eyes age as you do and 40 and up I found a good scope is as important as the gun. You cant beat a Leupold. In my opinion one of the best was the Leupold 2.5x8

Nikon has a great warranty. Send it back. They may send you a new, then sell it. Maybe I'll buy it. 😉
I heard that this is the last year that Nikon will be selling scopes. They are looking to get out of the scope market all together.
If you notice they are on sale everywhere.

I've been looking for a VX-R. With the duplex illuminated reticle. I think those would make an excellent woods scope. Very light and good battery life. I currently have a Trijicon accupoint 1-4x24. Great scope but pricy. The VX-R can be had for about $460.

I've got 2 VXR's, one on my Savage 220 Slug and one on one of my Muzzy's - by far my favorite scopes. I am looking for a 2.5-8 glossy though for a different rifle...
