I went out Saturday, the 13th, with my friend, Colby, his second year t-hunting and tried reeping. As much as it's dangerous, it's also a scream....
We spotted a tom in the field and put a move on him. I video'd from a rock pile and Colby reeped.
In the youtube video, Colby is to the right of the rocks, looking down a dirt road, where 2 toms were with a hen. The tom in the field just watched, I guess.

If someone did that in the field next to my house last Sunday morning they might have been shot by the road hunter who did kill a Tom in the field. I guess if you’re on posted private property with no other hunters it might be safer. Of course there’s poachers out there so you never know.

Can anyone think of a way to make this safer? This is something I'd love to try, especially with my bow, but I just can't figure out a way to avoid eating pellets. I know, odds are low anything bad would happen, but the stakes are high. Congrats to Colby though - I'm jealous.

What about some blaze orange ribbon or similar? Are turkeys sensitive to a bit of orange?

Sitting in a tree stand with a blaze orange vest doesn't bother turkeys. They don't seem to pay any attention to it.

Sorry about my spelling… no spell check and I’m old, does that work???
As for safety, we knew there wasn’t any hunters around. I wouldn’t put a friend at risk of being shot. One thing to mention, we tried REAPING today and the birds ran like hell. Guess the big boy of the group wasn’t around.

This will be illegal in nh starting in 2024 as will fanning (using real or fake fan in front of stationary hunter and moving it to attract a Tom)

So if you want to do it in nh this is the last year

I have been picked off by that tiny under armor logo in orange. All the birds that where ner me looked directly at it all at the same time and tolk off. Many states have already banned reaping. Definitely a dangerous situation in the wrong place. I am not anti reaping as long as you know where your hunting.

Reaping is not turkey hunting or the essence of what I believe it should be. Its turkey shooting and doesn’t require much skill. It’s dangerous and gives tge hunter an unfair advantage. Calling and woodsmanship is skillful
