I saw a picture of a 1000 pounder tagged in Presque Isle. Most of the bulls I have seen in trucks have been small

That’s obviously an Alaskan moose, they are much bigger.🙂
Its not an Alaskan moose. I shot that moose between Big and Little Spencer Mountain in 1985. Came out of the woods at Kokadjo. Antlers were about 63" across and wider than the pickup. weight was 920. It had a 8" forked drop tine on the back side of the antlers. That pic was taken when I got home in NY. Anyway, good luck to all the moose hunters out there. Post some pics!

Of course I was joking. I remember the first time you told the story. Big moose.

Getting him out was quite the production for a DIY hunt. At that time I was cutting a few logs and tons of firewood. We brought rigged block and tackles and come a longs and 100' of 1/2" rope from the woods where I worked. Aftre dragging him out to a logging road my dad nosed our pickup in front of a gray birch. I climed up and tied a rope, hooked one block in then led the other block to the moose. We hooked the block to a rope that was around the Moose's hind end. Then we put down skids and started pulling. When we couldn't pull my Dad hooked up a come a long and cranked him up. Then more on the blocks and back to the ratchet. After 2 1/2 hrs we got him on the truck. I was surprised that we didn't run into any major hitches. I'll never go on another hunt like that. Thats the reason I never put in for another moose permit, I'll never top this! Best of luck to all the other moose hunters. I wish everyone gets one like this

Sounds like a hell of a chore. Did I read it right that you dragged him against his hair?

We had a big bull chasing a cow in the back yard yesterday at noon. First moose I’ve seen around here this year.

We also saw a number of pretty nice bulls on the way back from Downeast this weekend. Groundtender is correct, they apparently moved pretty well the last few days of the season
