Saturday 11/25/17 37 Degrees with no wind. As I was heading in to the Farm stand I went by the Rock Wall stand and paused for a second and almost climbed up....but I kept going and it was the wrong decision. On stand at 06:00 and at 07:55 A deer comes off the farm but is far off. I sit till noon and nothing. I head out and swap 3 sd cards and as I head up the trail a Buck runs across the trail and stops 40 yards ahead just looking at me and its the high racked buck I missed on the Muzzleloader opener and hes just standing there so there has to be a Doe real close so I am looking and looking and all I see is his neck and head then suddenly the Doe bursts out of a blowdown and off they go! I get home and the SD card at the rock wall stand has 3 different buck and 2 Doe. One video shows another 8 go flying by chasing a Doe and 2 minutes later hes back 15 yards from my stand drooling and trying to catch his breath. And just like that they are back....time to get ready

I never made it out again for the rest of the season. My leg from the spine surgery nagged the hell out me all season not to mention I am still shaking my head over missing 2 racked bucks. I have to get in better shape as the heart attack and laid up for 7 weeks in 2016 took its toll. I only have myself to blame for this season so time to STHU and get to it.......2018 is coming......

Well 2018 has started out like 2017 ended with more physical issues. I had checked my 5 cameras late July and had plenty of Doe and fawns and one spike who was on all 5 cameras at all hours of the day walking around aimlessly. In mid August my right hip socket started to bother me and I tried to work it out on the exercise bike....no go so I had a cortazone shot done in the hospital and it worked. Then a week before the 9/15 bow opener I came down with my seemingly annual chest cold and the P.A. didn't believe I needed anything other than Musanex and these "pearls" to help with the cough. I told her this is not the first time and the ten day anti-biotics is the only thing that works.....well it didn't and they called in presizone days later and then the next day they listened and I got the anti-biotics on Wednesday 9/19 so far Thursday was the first night I actually got any sleep in 5 days and now its almost 2am and the cough will not let up so it looks like another long night sitting in my recliner trying to breath slow enough to stop the cough and fall asleep. Sunday is my 64th birthday and the weather is supposed to be good but I know my lungs will not be clear by then...looks like the last weekend in September will be my first sit...HOPEFULLY!

10/20/18 Rock Wall Stand: Saturday my first sit of 2018 and I got to the stand 15 minutes before first light. Temp is 46 degrees with little wind. At 08:40 I hear a deer coming in behind me and its a little 50 pounder who hung around for almost an hour. She was feeding on leaves as there isn't an acorn to be found. I sat until 10am and then swapped out 5 SD cards. Very few deer on the cams.

11/3/18 Farm stand: There is a truck parked where I have parked for the last 20 years. Weather is a little colder 42 degrees and a little after 7 I hear a shot from behind the farm. I hear two more shots from the same side. I sat until 10 and headed out. On the way out I didn't see any drag marks but right where the red truck was parked was a small pool of blood. Must have been a little one since there was no drag marks. I called in a breakfast sandwich at a local place and there is the truck that was parked in "my spot" I look in the back and there is a 50 lb Doe in the back. I pulled two of the SD cards and in two weeks one Doe on one card and zip on the other one. Not looking good this year.

11/9/18 Proven stand: Cold morning sat until 9:30 and swapped out the two SD cards. The one spike is the only deer on it since I swapped out all 5 cards....mot like this at all. We picked up the grandson for the weekend.

11/10/18 Sunday: Rock Wall stand: Got there early 05:30 even with the clocks turned back an hour. Sat until 09:30 and nothing again. Swapped out two SD cards and its not getting any better with sightings. My buddy Rich clipped a big Buck and tracked it and put it up twice not a good hit. The guy he was hunting with went there yesterday Wednesday the 14 and shot it before dark. A beauty of a 10 point who dressed 190!

I am taking off most of next week. Snow is predicted for Friday and tonight I finish getting the snow blower on the Kubota. Guys who have taken Deer say the stomachs are full of grass which is no surprise as for the last 3 weeks I am seeing deer in the fields way before dark.....Heres hoping for a better week ahead!

11/17/18: Saturday, I went to the Farm stand at 05:15 and cut a lot of Deer track on the way in. It took longer than usual to get to the stand with frozen truck tracks on the old road. I got in the stand a little before first light hoping for the best. I heard one shot at 06:55 then 4 spaced shots like ne every couple of minutes??? All shots came from the back of the farm. It wasn't an hour when the mental battle I have been having started...I just don't have the fire that I have had for the last 40 years and is it because of little hunting this season? I sat until 09:30 and got down and swapped out 4 sd cards one that I placed on the other side of a stone wall 40 yards to my left. Three fresh set of running tracks went by the cameras just a few feet out of the view of the camera. I slept in this morning and will check out behind the house.....

The 2018 season was a bust for me. This is the first season (40 years) I didn't shoot even one deer. Relying on the one piece of woods that I have hunted for 20 years and produced every year for me worked against me as old spots are now subdivisions. As I get older and the physical issues keep popping up just moving tree stands is getting tougher every year. My cams had 2 good bucks with Doe on 11/17 and last year it was 11/24 and the 25th with bucks chasing Does. The only deer I had in my sites were two tiny Doe and one really nice one. I have been blessed to hunt this posted property for the last 20 years and the unwritten rules are no Bears on no Doe's. Here's to 2019 season and getting the "fire" rekindled.

Well 2019 is here and I have been working the leg and the pain is almost gone and my energy is very good!!! So far the trail cameras are showing 5 different bucks. A spike, a 3pt, a 5 pt, and two 8 pts one of which is pretty nice. Several Doe and 2 with twins. 2 Different coyotes on the farm cam both around noon.
9/22/19 56 degrees no wind. Sunday: Snowmobile trail; First sit of the year as the camera had 3 of the bucks during morning hours. Nothing today and I swapped out 4 of the 6 cards and the Stone wall stand had the smaller 8 walk by within 5 feet of the stand! Oh well at least they are on the property. It feels good to be out again and not be hurting or sick!!!

9/27/19 Friday 05:30 52 Degrees with a light wind. I wanted to get to the Rock Wall stand early and I missed the trail in the dark but kept going as I knew I would end up back on it. I ended up by the farm so I swapped out the 2 SD cards there and went to the Rockwall stand. Didn't see anything but when I got home the SD cards told the tale. Back on Sunday the 22nd while at the snowmobile trail stand I didn't see anything while the small 8 was at the rock wall stand the bigger 8 point was at the Farm stand and worse yet he was there for 42 minutes eating acorns from 7:02 to 7:44. He was also there when I came in to get the SD cards! I didn't see anything and with me stomping around in the dark I decided to let the area cool off till next week. At least the Deer are still on the property.

10/5/19 Saturday 05:45 32 degrees with almost no wind. Farm stand and boy was it cold for the first week in October. Around 07:30 I caught sight of movement to my left and it was a decent racked buck but he was 70 yards off and heading off the property. Then he turned and started come back my way! It was short lived as he turned back but kept looking in my direction then I noticed the other Deer which had a smaller rack. There is a stone wall that the deer parallel so I was thinking they will be on the other camera when I check the SD card. The one thing that kept bothering me was that they both kept looking my way. When I got home they were not on the card so they had to have gone behind me along the stone wall which is the kick in the ass I need to at least move the stand 90 degrees so being a lefty it leaves me plenty of shots to my right and if they come on my left I at least will have a chance before they are too far for a shot. Slept in this morning and now time to get more wood in.

10/11/19 Friday noon time. I went to the farm stand and moved the stand 90 degrees and trimmed a couple of small limbs.

10/12/19 Saturday 47 degrees slight wind. Farm Stand: I over dressed and got sweaty going in. 07:10 had 3 deer heading off the property and the wind shifted and the blowing started and off they went. 07:40 I had another deer blow at me from behind. The wind is blowing in every direction and this has to be the first time I have had deer wind me in years!

10/19/19 Saturday Snowmobile trail stand: I was on stand at 06:10 and almost no wind....no deer either! Stayed until 09:50 swapped out SD cards and one decent 8 point. I also know why the deer are running all over the place as there is a high racked 7 pointer and a 4 point chasing the deer all over the property night and day since September!!! Crazy

10/25/19 Friday 47 degrees just a whisper of wind at the Rock Wall stand. On stand at 06:00 and at 07:15 I look over my shoulder towards the farm and here come 4 deer down from my stand at 100 yards and boy is that Doe huge! They angled toward the other end of the rock wall and never came close. At 08:05 off to my right are two more deer 100 yards out and not even coming near me??? This stand has always produced but nothing coming by? I swapped out the sd card and only one deer in two weeks! Something is off.

10/31/19 Weather is supposed to be raining and extremely windy for Friday. I was hoping for one more morning sit before the loader season starts Saturday but weather is supposed to be good

I still cant add a new post?

11/2/19 Saturday opening day of muzzleloader season. 28 degrees and I went to the Farm stand sat for 4 hours and no deer.

11/3/19 Sunday 30 degrees got up at 03:30 with the DST which sucks! Snowmobile (proven stand) and had a big Doe come in to 15 yards and had a staring contest for 10 minutes. Pulled the SD cards and headed out.

11/4/19 Monday I checked the SD cards last night and while at the proven stand the big buck was at the Farm stand at 10:10 am what a beauty!!! This is the 3rd time this season good bucks have been at one stand while I am at another!
Another perfect west wind at the farm stand and after looking at the videos my hopes are sky high. I got to the stand at 05:20 and waited and it didn't take long for things to get interesting. At 8:05 a little Doe comes running in from behind me along the stone wall and is looking back over her shoulder. She runs away from the wall and stops and a fat bladed spike starts the chase and both come flying over the stone wall and he stops at 12 yards. He looks at me for a minute and off he goes trying to follow the Doe.
Twenty minutes later I catch movement to my left close to a ground seat I have had there for years and see two deer and one looks like a buck and its a tight basket rack 8 pointer the chase is on! She would stop and he would watch her like a hawk staying a few feet away and totally unaware that he is 22 yards from me and an easy shot with the muzzleloader. While debating on whether to shoot him I hear what sounds like a grunt behind me I look over my shoulder and theres the big one chasing a Doe into the pine/hemlock thicket now about 100+ yards away. I hit the grunt tube and the Doe stops with him almost slamming into her and both look my way. I dial up the scope and all I have is his head and rack in the scope and I am praying for him to step out which didn't happen and they turned and walked away and as tempted as I was I lowered the loader and sat down. I then remember the basket rack and look over and both are standing broadside at 40 yards starring at me for a split second and both took off at Mach 2! Wow...what a morning. I sat until 1pm and left smiling over a great morning.

11/6/19 Wednesday Farm Stand 05:30 on stand. At a little after 7am I see the Turkeys coming from behind the farm and figure that's it for today as they take forever to go 100 yards if they are just feeding. A little after 8 I see a deer running around the Turkeys and heading toward my ground seat so I hit the grunt tube and he stops. It's the fat bladed Spike I saw on Monday. I hit the grunt again and he comes flying over the stone wall and locks up 15 yards away the starring contest starts and after 10 minutes or so he walks away. About an hour later I have an even smaller Spike come in to the call and he came in looked at me an wondered off. I sat until 11am.

11/7/19 Thursday 28 degrees and the West wind and videos has me rolling the dice with continuing to hunt the Farm stand as the Rock Wall stand has only had 1 Doe in weeks on camera??? Strange as its always produced?

We picked up the grandson Friday so I took a break until Sunday
11/10/19 Sunday I got up and felt like crap and went back to bed.....for about two minutes and got back up as the rut is insane this year. On my way in the scrapes are again fresh along with 7 more so I am pumped. Went to the Farm stand and was set at 05:15. West wind again and its crisp and quiet and nothing, not even the squirrels are moving but at 07:45 here comes a racked buck from behind the farm headed straight to me. As he gets closer I see hes not the basket rack but the better one I have on 2 different cameras. I make my decision to shoot him and at less than 20 yards he walks into my scope and Boom the buck does the mule kick and he runs about a 100 yards and goes down hard! My shot was good as 3/4 of the heart was mush and he dressed 166lbs.
On the way out I swapped out all the SD cards and on Friday the 4th at the Rock Wall stand were 3 bucks, the big one, a smaller buck and I think the 8 I killed were corralling a Doe mid morning.
