Well I had planned on getting a lot of scouting done for 2016 but the concussion and heart attack in January took a lot out of me. It took months to get any strength back but enough whining. I had been seeing a lot more deer than last so I was optimistic for the season.

Saturday Sept 17 2016. Weather was not to bad and I saw a doe w/1 skip and another Doe with 2 skips. Pretty good first day.

Friday Sept 23 2016 My Birthday. 5 point stand Nice cool morning and at 07:20 I 4 pointer comes up from the gully and after last season I wanted another birthday buck like last year. He was almost past me but caught me moving and got curious. He should have kept going and when he stepped into a lane I took the shot. He dropped as it was a spine hit. I figured it at 40 when it was 35. I got down and finished him. I bought a Tactacam and have it on video. I am not going to post it was as quick as I like.
For some reason photobucket is not letting me copy anything

I didn't get to hunt again until October 15th....one of the reasons I wanted to do the log was for the weather and deer movement which most of the season so bad on me. I have the grandson every 2nd week of every month so I am home and I wouldn't trade it for anything.
10/15/16 in the 5pt stand and a half hour after sunrise I have two 4 pointers gently sparring behind my stand and I have a quick video of it. One went towards the trail and the other came by at 20 yards followed by the spike he has been sparring with since opening day. Both would have been easy shots but there is a big 6 and a nice 8 on the property.
10/16/16 I usually don't hunt the same stand 2 days in a row but the cameras are telling me otherwise. Weather on both days was 30s into the 40s so very comfortable. I try to get in the stand 30 minutes before first light and this time of the year its easy compared to daylight savings time.
A little after 7am here comes one of the 4 pointers and the spike a minute behind him both head to the house. Both would easy shots and the cameras are showing a lot of day movement with the small bucks and Does so they get a walk even though we all know the movement can shut down anytime. Later today I will try to post videos I have.

I didn't get to hunt until Monday 10/31/16 Muzzleloader season. 31 Degrees. I hunted the Rock Wall stand got in early 30 minutes before first light and 20 minutes after sunrise I catch movement behind and to my left comes a nice Doe and her skipper and right behind them are two more. At 08:40 2 small deer come from the farm and for some reason they started to run right to me and both stopped on the other trail at 15 yards....looked around and walked away. I stayed on stand until 10:30 and jumped one walking out. Good start to the loader season!

11/1/16 Tuesday Hunted the 5pt stand 33 degrees sat till 10am ZIP

11/2/16 Wednesday Rock Wall, had a small Doe at 08:40 and a huge Doe at 09:05 both at 60 yards left at 10:30

11/3/16 Thursday Rained out slept in

11/4/15 Friday hunted the ground seat by the farm-ZIP other than turkeys

I have had the week off and have been seeing small bucks and Does but no signs of the 8 and 6 pointer that we on camera earlier in the season. I have had 2 more 4 pointers in addition to the one I killed on my birthday in September. Along with them there is or was 2 spikes. The landowners son killed one of the spikes last weekend and I kept having the 4 pointers within 20 yards and one video I have them gently sparring as I watched which was pretty cool. I decided to switch back to the crossbow and hunt my proven " in tight" stand hoping for a shot at one of the 4 pointers or the spike. With the weather turning colder I knew I was going to at least get a shot yesterday and told my wife you should be getting a text with pictures before 07:30 as I was confident in the stand. While walking up the trail I see someone with a light and then heard a dog bark and I am like WTF is someone doing out here at this time of the morning. I made sure they saw my light and theirs went out and I headed to my stand. I was all settled in at 06:20 and ready for what ever the morning may bring. I have killed the last few deer from this stand and most have been between 07:20 and 07:30....weird but they seem to be on a timetable so I am on my toes and ready. It was 32 degrees and not a whisper of wind and in a blink I see a flash of brown and instantly think coyote but I see horns and this deer is flying in on a trail 20 yards in front of me. It happened so fast I had no time to turn on the Tactacam and as the safety goes off I stand and give him a MAAaaaa and another even louder MAAAAAA....he locks up at 20 yards head and front leg behind a large tree. Its now or never and I have to lean a little to my right and settle the pin and WACK he give a mule kick and he bolts 40 yards and goes down. The Rage 2 blade entered the middle of his chest cavity and angled forward exiting low just behind the right leg. The heart was almost cut in two....now back to gun season!

11/10/16 Thursday The cameras are drying up. Hunted the rock wall stand for 3 hours and nothing.

11/11/16 Friday Veterans day. Hunted the ground tree seat at the farm.....nothing but turkeys.

Took the week of 11/14/16 some hunting some chores.

11/14/16 hunted the lower rock wall stand....3 hours and zip

Cams show only night movement of 2 small bucks and not a single Doe....weird.

Next hunt Thanksgiving morning. Hoping for a repeat of last year and will hunt the 5pt stand, or should I change it to the 29 point stand as I have taken two 5 pt, and 8, a 4 and the 7 pointer....

11/24/16 Thanksgiving morning in the stand at 0545....29 degrees and no wind. It is so quiet, no noise of any kind. I am hoping for a repeat of last year but it didn't happen....I didn't see even a squirrel or a bird for that matter. I sat on stand at the proven stand (5pt) until 09:30. I swapped out two SD cards and there are 2 real good bucks as of the 23rd, Wednesday......I was thinking of hanging it up but when I saw the two bucks I will most likely head out tomorrow morning. I shot the 4 and 7 pointer and the landowners son shot a spike and a 4 pt..and then these two show up.....game back on!

Friday was rained out

11/26/16 Saturday 35 degrees slight wind went to the Rock wall stand. In the stand at 06:05 and sat until 09:30. I got down and swapped out the SD card and started to poke around toward the back of the farm and then toward the owners house. I was pretty quiet and then a snap from a branch I stepped on and two tails to my right at 100+ yards...and two seconds later another tail twice as big from the same spot. I tried to pick them up after I sat for 30 minutes but with the amount of turkeys "rototilling" the property it was tough to follow. They went right past the old "10 point stand" which I have not hunted for 5 years. I will admit I have gotten lazy and relied on 4 different stands instead of changing them up, or adding a couple more for late season gun only stands. That will change this spring as my son in law wants to hunt with me next season.
This is the second year my buddy Rich has hunted elsewhere so I didn't have a "driver" to move any deer after a sit. I went home and checked the SD card and at 9am on Wednesday (11/23) a Doe went by the Rock wall stand with her tail clamped to her butt. A little bit later a nice buck was following her. There was also Does going by at noon, 2, 2:30 and suddenly they went from almost no movement at all to them strolling around feeding like it was early October. Its been a long season and I slept in today. I keep telling myself that I am done but maybe, just maybe another buck will come my way next weekend.....

12/3/16 I went back to the 5pt stand as it is close to the house and the only cam showing any movement. Saturday 34 Degrees with strong wind gusts and I can't hear a damn thing. I got settled in at 06:10 and my buddy Rich is coming around 9 to push the property for me. He's killed a Doe, a small 8 and a beauty 188 lb 8 pointer. I head to the corner at the back of the farm and I have a shot 100 yards to the east and west and wait. The wind is howling as he starts the push and its tight to my left at say 10 o'clock but to my right its pretty open with all hardwoods so I know I have to be ready. The wind quiets and I hear him yell so I am ready but with my head on a swivel looking left and right going back and forth 180 degrees.....I looked left, then to the right and back left and Jesus there is a Doe 10 feet away looking over her right shoulder back trail. She has no idea I am sitting there on a stump! It happened so fast and with the wind I never heard or saw her come in! She stood there for almost 2 minutes then walked off. Rich did another loop up and back to no avail so we headed out. He had family stuff today and at this time of the season movement is spotty if at all during the day so I decided to hang it up for 2016. I was disappointed in the amount of deer seen this year at 24 seen but happy with taking 2 bucks with the crossbow. I had high hopes of seeing the 50+ deer as in years past after the easy winter we had. 2016 is a wrap!

Kevin in NH Hunting logs 2015-2016-2017

I thought I should update, or start my 2017 hunting log before the season is over so here goes.....
September 15, 16, and 17 2017
It was miserable hunting conditions with the temps in the 80s and 100% humidity! The step son came down from Maine and we did not see a single deer.

September 23rd-My Birthday! I was hoping to make it 3 years in a row to shoot a buck on my birthday and it looked like it was going to happen but like an idiot I counted my chickens before they hatched!!!
I was at the rock wall stand and at 07:25 I hear a deer directly behind me and so I waited...and waited until the first deer, a 7 pointer was at 10 yards to my right which is perfect for a lefty! I waited a little longer as they now the 7 and also a 5 pointer were both to my right so I started to turn on the Tactacam and slowly raise the bow....and the 3rd deer spotted me and off they went!!! I got to cocky and if I had only waited for them to feed by I would have had a chip shot....but Noooooooo I blew it.

September 9th and 11th I hunted the proven stand and had a small Doe come in early 06:45 and at 07:15 a little button buck fed around me for 45 minutes. On the 11th I hunted the ro0ck wall stand and saw zip. I moved the stand on my birthday after getting busted so now I have it placed better so I will not get busted from behind....

Today is the 12th and it is my last day in North Hampton and Monday the 16th I start as the new inspector in Newington which is loaded with deer so I hope to make a contact or two!

October Friday the 13th 2017 Rock Wall stand 34 degrees...finally cool. 7:10 3 deer are on me from my left and at 15 feet the first deer a beauty of a Doe easily 130 stops and looks right up at me i squint my eyes she is so close......she continues on around me and the two Does with her looked very healthy. They feed past me offering easy shots. Sat till 1030

Friday 10/20/17 Rock wall stand 45 degrees zero wind woods are extremely dry so even these old ears I can hear squirrels 40 yards away....and that's all i saw was squirrels

Saturday 10/28/17 Muzzleloader opening day. 34 degrees and calm wind. I am hunting the farm stand hoping that the 8 pointer comes thru. I am on stand at 0610 almost an hour before sunrise. Most of the leaves are down so I can see pretty good in all directions.
I am set up with the farm at 2 o'clock and being a lefty I have a good field of fire to my fight and a stone wall is 50 yards behind me. At 730 I hear a shot behind the farm and 10 minutes later another shot closer to me but on the other property. At 750 I see Doe come off the knob at 3 o'clock to my left so I am watching it come towards me and out of the corner of my eye I see the 8 pointer I stand to get the shot and he's at 50 yards but the only shot I have is a Texas heart shot so I wait and he is heading towards the Doe and now I have a shot but it's at almost 100 yards I take the shot and after the smoke clears he is still standing there!!! I hit the grunt call and he starts flicking his tail like crazy so I start to reload and I didn't slam the ramrod down to fully seat the power belt but I thought it was enough. Now i am pissed that I missed and ready to take the second shot as I finally steady myself and pop...Then Boom...and the jerk behind the trigger jerks it badly and off they go.
The rack is maybe 16 inches wide but tall. I get down and check and nothing. I climb back up and sit until 1130 kicking myself for missing. I climb down and while talking off excess cloths I see to deer walking towards my ground seat both are Doe so I let them pass and a minute later a spike is right behind them. I pass on the spike and swap out the sad card and head out. I stop at the rock wall stand and swap out that one and I look and a deer gets up and runs off. I went and check the muzzleloader and it was the Jerk behind the trigger not the gun. Time get to ready and head out. We are supposed to get 1 to 3 inches of rain with 50 mile an hour winds so maybe they will be moving good. I am going right back to the farm stand for round 2

Friday 11/3/17 54 degrees warm and muggy. Farm Stand sunrise 07:22 and 06:15 all settled in the stand. Just before shooting light I see what appears to be a coyote or Bobcat heading onto the property but just not enough light to tell. I sat until 10:00 and didn't see anything. I swapped out 4 sd cards and the blind got blown over with the hurricane force winds we had which also caused a major power outages. While popping it back into shape and not being very quiet while doing it I turned to leave and there's a nice Doe 20 yards away I bring up the loader and put the cross hairs right between her eyes and say pow....and away she goes.....

Saturday 11/4/17 Proven Stand a little cooler than yesterday and I am in the stand at 06:30 and sat until 11:30 and didn't see anything. Today is the gun opener....seems like the season is flying by. I received a text from Sean who hunts the property on the other side of Eds shot a 6 pointer and his buddy wounded an 8 pointer that he thought headed back towards Eds. The 6 pointer I had on one of my cameras so there are 2 less deer on the property. Sean couldn't tell me if it was the tall but narrow 8 pointer.
The new job is working out very well. My boss and coworkers are super nice and after only 3 weeks I will be getting a Cola raise and a step increase...time to head out.......good luck!

11/8/17 Wednesday I swapped out all 5 sd card have zero pictures and since the landowners son has started hunting my stands 3 of the 5 have dried up. The only one I am hunting is the farm stand as he hasn't found that one yet.
I know there is a good buck as I got him again on the cam.

11/9/17 Thursday 27 degrees. I caught movement at 7:05 and it looked like the same one I have on the cam...he never presented a shot. Time to get moving...I am hoping he comes closer this morning!

11/10/17 Friday....its great having every Friday off and my new boss Martha is pro hunting and gave me 5 days of vacation to use by the end of the year. Back at the Farm stand didn't see anything. Cold and windy 30s 30 mph gusts Time to get the little man (Grandson). Got up at 03:45 felt like crap went back to bed.
11/12/17 Sunday real cold 27 degrees and no wind. On stand 05:50 and at 07:10 I see a Doe and her yearling coming on the property they aren't running but they are on a mission and then I see what looks like an 8 pointer typical basket but it has some thickness to the antlers...they start doing the chase and stop and I get a shot at 50 and he runs into some thick stuff. The Doe and her skip just start feeding and are totally at ease. Almost 4 minutes go by I see what looks like the 8 pointer walking towards the Doe....I am not sure its the same Buck but I hold off on the shot in case I ended up with 2 dead deer. Got down and checked and no sign of a hit so I climb back up and not 3 minutes later this4 pointer comes in. He is slow coming in and after a few minutes I have him at 25 yards and boom.....off he goes into a thicket of blowdowns and stands there....I am in disbelieve as I have killed a few at over 100 yards and two misses today....he steps out and this time I somehow managed to hit him. I got down 30 minutes later and he went 60 yards. Pass through with Federal trophy copper 3" Rem 870 cantilevered 12 ga.

Thanksgiving Morning 2017 on stand 06:00....24 degrees with a COLD 10 mph wind. Nothing except squirrels and the little man his mom and dad are already at the house so time to head out.
I had nothing on the 5 sd cards I swapped out on the 18th so I swap all 5 again and BOOM....for the first time ever I have a beauty of a buck trying to mount a receptive doe on the farm stand camera on the 18th....an hour after I climbed down...I am thankful for the buck I killed but WTH....tomorrows another day!!!
