I've been going up snowmobiling with a bunch of friends for years. We used to stay at the Birches in Rockwood, but the last couple times my brother and I decided to stay at Parlin Lake Lodge. Haven't been back up since Covid and(the year before the fire they had at the lodge) We've been to trains a couple times as well as the B-52 crash site. Mostly because the guys we go up with seem to like going to those places. Personnally, my brother and I will seperate from the group and spend most of our time looking for moose sheds or traveling up to Pittston farm and then over to northeast carry.
Great. I am right across the street from the Lodge. Good jumping off point to head in all directions.

There was a house that they rented across the street from the lodge next to the maintenance building. We tried to get the rest of the group to stay there instead of the birches, but they wouldn't do it. Is that the house you're in?

I had no idea those trains were up there. When we were moose scouting my friend and I ventured into an old mine where the boiler still sits. Just think....... these old non-functioning pieces of machinery have sat for decades without rusting out. I understand the salt factor, but a $60,000.00 pick up rusts out in a single decade.

They have been restored.

No, I am at the old Piel Farm in the field right before the driveway you are talking about.

Great photos and looks like a great time spent win the winter months, I am always happy when I have spent some winter time outside. Makes me feel like I cheated some extra days out of the year. Enjoy the last of the season.

Are you guys still sledding up there? I’m getting the lawn tractor ready, onion grass is coming up fast now here.
Still a several feet around camp, 4 feet or more in elevation. I had to dig out my trailer on Saturday, solid 2 feet in the driveway.

We picked up 13 more inches since Thursday night. The sledding is supposed to be very good and the hotels are full.

I saw that. Had a friend that just got back and said it’s still good riding but I think a lot of places are out of money. Around Jackman only a couple clubs still grooming and most restaurants are closed for mud season. I’m over it, raked my lawn today, watched some kid sports, 55 and sunny and felt damn good on my skin.

Did you hear/see the new lodge being constructed near Indian Pond. I guess he wants to start a snowmobile club, is grooming trails to the waterway, wants to put in gas and a restaurant. More people snowmobiling out that way now than fishing.

I have not heard this. It’s a tough business and I wish them well and would certainly get the winter traffic to keep going. The last time I went to trains it was insane how many people were up there. When I used to fish up there in the winter you only saw the occasional ice fisherman. We do have a problem that we love things to death. Years ago if you carried 3-5 gallons of fuel on a sled you could get to the far reaches of the NMWs and back and never see another snowmobile track. Then we started stacking jerry cans and carrying 10 gallons, now you gotta haul a fuel sleigh just to get to untouched stuff.

The advancements in GPS and other electronic mapping has allowed people to venture out I think. Before you more/less had to know where you were going, otherwise you just stayed on the marked trails. Now, you can venture off without too much risk, and to your point, with the number of people doing it, it further reduce the risk in that you're unlikely to end up somewhere so remote that you don't see anyone.

We came back from the county on Sunday. It was a blizzard in the morning when we left.

We had a good time. Still plenty of snow, but the sun is taking its toll.
