Been sledding recently north of Jackman and up into Z4 hinterlands? I always enjoy your reports. Thx
We had fun. Got in some rides with just my 10 year old, a few with both kids, wife and I rode over to Baxter, Shin Pond, etc. Plowing limited some exploring, moosehead which I use to get up to North East Carry and then up towards Chesuncook and Chamberland was slow to freeze so limited some big days. Saw a few Lynx, handful of bulls early, and loads of deer this year. Couple more photos.Thanks. Looks like fun. Like the looks of that pulled meat chow. Thanks again
Thanks, we are very fortunate to be able to do it all winter and I feel like a lucky man every time I drive up route 201.You guys are living right KC. That's some beautiful area. Relaxing rides with the family and all day to get there. Can't beat that.
Awesome! All great spots. I’m going to run up this weekend, pack up the camp and call it a season.Great photos. My wife and I have been riding Maine this winter. We love it!
We spent a long weekend at 15 mile stream earlier this winter. We checked Coburn, Grand Falls, and the B52 crash site off the list.
We spent an extended weekend in MT. chase as well. We were able to see the trains, lunches at Libby’s, NEOC, & Dean’s as well as stunning views of Katahdin.
We are heading up to the County tomorrow for one last mini vacation before the chaos of spring, summer, & fall ensues.

For us, the history and the story behind them. What’s the attraction of the trains?

Cool thanks for posting. Never knew they hauled logs with them. For us, the history and the story behind them.
You can rent sleds from Shin pond village. The ride to the trains and back can easily be done in a day from SPV.I've wanted to see the trains for years.
How is the traffic when you’re riding up there? Do you go for miles without seeing anybody or are you constantly passing people going back-and-forth.You can rent sleds from Shin pond village. The ride to the trains and back can easily be done in a day from SPV.
Plenty of traffic on the weekends. Much less during the week. Overall though, not bad. If you are flexible, midweek is preferable. How is the traffic when you’re riding up there? Do you go for miles without seeing anybody or are you constantly passing people going back-and-forth.
I've been going up snowmobiling with a bunch of friends for years. We used to stay at the Birches in Rockwood, but the last couple times my brother and I decided to stay at Parlin Lake Lodge. Haven't been back up since Covid and(the year before the fire they had at the lodge) We've been to trains a couple times as well as the B-52 crash site. Mostly because the guys we go up with seem to like going to those places. Personnally, my brother and I will seperate from the group and spend most of our time looking for moose sheds or traveling up to Pittston farm and then over to northeast carry.Snowmobiling is a lot about destination riding and exploring, this is just another cool spot to ride out to, spend a few minutes, maybe cook lunch and take some photos and head back. Years ago, before GPS and the internet it was a big adventure to get there on sled. Now it’s pretty popular because most will never get in there in the summer.

The Ghost Locomotives of the Great Maine Wilderness - New England Historical Society
Not many people have seen the ghost locomotives sitting in the Allagash wilderness, miles from any road or railhead. There's a reason they're still there.newenglandhistoricalsociety.com
It’s definitely the salt, look at old pick ups down in Florida no rust.I had no idea those trains were up there. When we were moose scouting my friend and I ventured into an old mine where the boiler still sits. Just think....... these old non-functioning pieces of machinery have sat for decades without rusting out. I understand the salt factor, but a $60,000.00 pick up rusts out in a single decade.
