Last year I called the Iowa DNR and asked how it worked. The lady there told me that non-resident basically has no chance of getting for an archery tag until the 3rd year. She said that rather than pay the full fee for the lottery, and waiting to get your money back less the preference point fee, it is better to just buy preference points the first 2 years. The third year you have a very good chance of getting drawn, so that's the year to enter the lottery. She indicated that in the third year it almost a lock to get drawn.

I am not sure about shotgun, but the lady at Iowa DNR said that the chances of getting drawn for a muzzleloader tag is very high the first year that you apply.

Thanks E!!!!

June 2nd (Sunday) is the last day to apply. It takes 3 years for bow but you have a good chance of drawing late MZ with no points. If you don't draw you automaticly get a preference point so it doesn't hurt to try. If any of you are looking for a place to hunt pm me. I have 2500 acres in zone 5.

Zone 5 is the cream of the crop, and if you are going to wait you may as well hunt the best of the best. Check out my web page of trail cam pics etc. and you will see why it is worth the wait. www.skunkriveroutfitters.co
