My buddy and I have 3 preference points. We are starting to look for a place to hunt. Some zones need 3 to draw and some need 4 points. So we are looking at 2020 or 2021 season. We are contemplating DIY, Leasing and outfitters. We would love to get in a situation sharing land with other hunters where we have a few groups hunting different years as we all draw tags. If we could get four groups of 2 to 3 guys all splitting a lease each group gets the land to themselves on the year they draw. We could all work together to optomize the land and the time. I know difficult to arrange but it might be the best option. Anyone know of any leasing options that split it up every 4th or 5th year?

So any advice on outfitters or any other options would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Rob

Today, everyone already knows that the world is threatened by a coronavirus. Despite the determination of measures against the virus, it continues to spread faster and faster. Every day, the number of deaths from the virus is growing. And medical masks that help not to catch the disease have become a big deficit.
The virus threatens not only people, but also the global economy. Therefore, the Chinese giant, Xiaomi, has allocated 117 million yuan to fight the coronavirus.
In a short time, the company's engineers got to work and today there are already several ready-made products. To date, there is a virus mask on sale Xiaomi Smartmi Mask and UV sterilizer Xiaomi Xiaoda Sterilization Lamp.

The mask and lamp are recommended by the Ministry of health of China as a means to significantly reduce the risk of getting sick with coronavirus. We are waiting for more new products from Xiaomi with proven effectiveness.
Take care of yourself and your loved ones!

Hmm. No one is promised tomorrow.

I'd go on a guided hunt to get a taste of the Iowa hunting scene and include a bird trip if possible. Glean as much information from the local cafe and diner about the region. A lot can be done online but feet on the ground will give you some better information.

I was thinking about the lease situation. Look at the deer density and lease acreage. Say you lease 100 acres and you are in a place with 10 deer per square mile you will have roughly 2-3 deer on that 100 acres. Is that worth it? If you are in a place with 100 deer per square mile than it would be . Overall Iowa has a low deer per square mile. https://www.realtree.com/brow-tines...western-states-ranked-by-deer-per-square-mile

Have you been to Iowa before? I have driven through it many times and it very agricultural. Miles of cornfield and other grain based crops.

Again I'd go with a guided hunt to get a good idea. You may find that leasing is not a good route.

Thank you Bigbore! great points to ponder. We will probably lease about 300 acres as a home base. It will definitely involve a trip out to actually scout prospective leases before we put our hard earned cash down. There is also a bunch of public land so if we are not seeing what we want on the lease we can branch out. Outfitted out there is crazy money. 1000 dollars a day basically. We can lease 300 acres for around 4-5 thousand for the year and then spend 3 weeks out there if we want. If we tag out early we can jump down to missouri and hunt public. Or maybe even bring the dog with us and do some pheasant hunting. Lots of options.

That may be a great plan. I have a friend who has a relative in Iowa and sort of has an "in" with the hunting situation.

It seems that if you make some good friends over there more doors open up. So it may be worth it. I do believe that you still have to enter a draw for deer. Even if you lease land. Again triple check on that so I am not made to be a liar. But I did get the impression from my friend that you need to put in for a year or so to get a deer tag. Again he has an in. A brother in law could get him a tag.

We already have 4 preference points so we are a guaranteed draw for bow season anywhere in the state. We are focusing on zones 5 or 6
