I used to be unsure on the fence, but these guys convinced me that the Rompala Buck was altered and Fake.

I’d take a half dozen 200lb 6 pointers over 1 150” buck any day. If you can combine the two ……. That’s great, but my excitement/anticipation is hands down much higher on a ride to the check station with my boys rather than what a string and tape determine months later. That’s just me though.

I know the weight of both those bucks though……. 200 and 186

It honestly seems that for many people, it starts out that way. Most of these guys never set out targeting a "world record" per se and many of them aren't regular big buck killers. I think that's why you see a lot of them end up getting sold. It seems the "trophy" itself means more to others than it does to themselves.

Going to the check station was a pain in the ass at times, but others it was nice, like you mentioned going to the check station with your boys. No more check stations here, all online.

I'm surprised Maine hasn't gone online yet. I'm sure it's coming.

Wow...the story of the King buck is pretty revealing as to how absurd things have become. It's ridiculous that shooting a beautiful buck can be turned into somewhat of a nightmare for the hunter. I can honestly say that I am grateful shooting bucks like that is not a possibility in the areas I hunt...as it would ultimately destroy everything I love about hunting.

Rumor that he sold it. Nothing confirmed. In that vein, as with both sides of this story, there are a lot of "rumors" that you and many others keep regurgitating as statements of fact to support their opinion.

Again, you can have an opinion but at the end of the day, it's just that. The only thing we know as fact is that only Rompola himself knows what the truth actually is. Anything else is purely speculation.

Well now........ if you read the comments , there's numerous saying he ran the buck down with his pick up before finally shooting it. A new controversy for you to look into.

From another forum. Apologize for the length, had to save as a PDF since it was too long to post directly.

That’s pretty interesting.
One point in the article that was taken for granted is where he says the DNR aged the buck at 7 1/2. How’d they do that? Photos? Jaw bone? Physically inspecting?

I’ve read most of Richard Smith’s books. He does a good job.

Very familiar with this buck. Went to school in Michigan and am also very familiar with the area where it was shot.
I think it is 100% real. The guy was a reclusive and lived to hunt. Basically he was attacked right at the onset by a bunch of jealous guys. He basically just said f you, no one is going to get to see my deer after all the commotion. Recovery video below.

I agree, I wont voice my opinion on if its real or not and have been asked countless times over the years but totally agree with all the BS and jealous people he just said F off and left the spotlight.
