I used to be unsure on the fence, but these guys convinced me that the Rompala Buck was altered and Fake.

A lot of this happening on flea-bay from what I hear on other forums…much misrepresentation of items a seller doesn’t even have…they just drop-ship a fake or a completely different item from Amazon…the world is full of scumbags, unfortunately.
It’s occurs on the snowmobile Facebook groups I’m in for parts, which can get expensive if you get F’d.

My bad…… didn’t realize it was already posted
If that’s the first time you’ve seen it, what are your thoughts?

One thing I noticed was the angle of the antlers in the recovery video seem more up-and-down and not laid out as flat as in the photo. The angle of the main beams are different it appears.

I was trying to figure out what was different this morning, but I couldn't place it. Something was out of place, but it didn't click. That is what it is.

The video is pretty distorted for 1998 technology, is it not? Looks like one of them bigfoot vids. Could it be intentionally distorted so people wouldn't catch what you have?

Glad we don't get too excited about how many inches a deer has grown here in Maine. We are mostly concerned with weight. And we all know we wouldn't do anything to enhance a deer's weight. Like maybe a window weight in the neck to win the big buck contest, or leave the heart and lungs in to get a "patch".

Deer queers everywhere that have to “be somebody” in the deer hunting world. I guess it’s what happens when a person wasn’t a good athlete , student or anything else they perused in life. Obviously if it comes down to having to cheat or manipulate whatever the hobby is, they’re not even good a being a decent human being. At the end of the day, even if it’s real I wouldn’t walk to the end of my driveway to see it unless I needed to check the mailbox. It’s just not that important to me.

There’s been many a 125lb forkhorns shot over the years that were great hunts and memories for those who participated in the hunt or drag. There’s been just as many celebrations over giant bucks that were shot unethically, unsportingly or flat out illegally simply because of the size of the rack. Seems silly doesn’t it? The story has a higher value than the final tally of the inches. Now when they’re combined together in a legit manner, that’s what makes it so special. When people feel like they need to live up to some reputation…….it’s bound to taint it. Just my .02

Sounds like he is suspicious of the deer but can't come to a conclusion either way.

Why would this guy literally, fall off the map if there wasn’t something fishy going on.
I don’t buy the story that he didn’t want any recognition…and the perv stuff with the shoe cams videoing up women’s skirts…says a lot about “the man”

I joined a FB group, and a video was shared (which has since been removed) that Mitch's son Kevin was commenting on and going back/forth with the video creator. It was a YT podcast vid.

And, what did the video prove or point out?

The video was of a guy just regurgitating a bunch of the same old rumors from 25 years as to why it has to be fake.

This is the post in question that has some screenshots of some of the comments.

This is the group:

This is the video, but the one that was commented on was a clipped segment of it that is no longer available. It starts at like 14:00 or so.

There's some interesting stuff posted in there from time to time. Not sure why the recent ressurgance in discussion around the deer, but it is interesting to follow along. If you're on Facebook, check it out.

You know that Mitch Rompola was well known within Michigan circles before he shot this buck. In fact, he was a high-ranking member of CBM and was also an official scorer for P&Y and B&C. They may not have run it through the ringer as they would a complete stranger, since they all knew him. However, world record scorer's were not so assuming and demanded x rays be done ;).
If they said it was legit, then why did they insist on an X ray, and no X rays on other record bucks?
