mine's the same with the grooved fore end. like NHhunter said, can't go wrong. pretty compact and sturdy as hell.

here's a pic of the same gun (not mine). make that one in 270, add a balvar scope and there you have it. a perfect deer gun. circa mid 1950's.

Nice looking rig there Fisch! Send me the barrel code and serial numbers via e-mail (r[email protected]) and I'll look up the date for you.

One thing that really stands out in the pics of the 760 is the drop of the comb. The raised comb on the 7600 makes it better suited for a scope. I stopped at Old Town Trading Post last week. The 7600 7-08's there have very light wood, it looks like unstained maple and gold trggers. I didn't care for the look, but that's just me.

dmf, sent you an email. the Balvar scope is Bausch and Lomb variable scope, all elevation and windage adjustments are in the mounts. set up the scope on one gun, it can be taken out and put onto another gun w/same mounts and switched back w/no adjustments needed. pretty cool. simple and stays in. have it on an old mauser 270 also.

Im looking for a remington model 6...anybody know what they look like? They are an upscale model of the 7600's discontinued in 1988 or something..This is my dad with his and we have been looking for one forever for me to replace my 7600.

that's got a lot of similarities to the 760's with the changed fore end and contoured stock, i'm with wells on this one... "sure that's a model 6?"

did an image search for a model 6, all came back as a single shot gun. follow this link for a pic: http://www.jdbedwell.com/Guns/OldGunStories/ModelSix.jpg

Model Sx and Model Fours (pump and auto) were introduced in 1981 as replacements for the 760 and 742 BDL Custom Deluxe Rifles. Both models were short-lived and were dropped from the 1988 catalog.

That being said, from all the photos I have on these two models, that appears to be a Model Four which was the auto; the forearm looks too long in that picture to be the pump model.

Das Fisch - I got your e-mail; looks like your gun was made in October 1954 as best as I can tell; some 43,635 were made in that caliber between '53 and '57, surpassed only by (of course) the .30-06 in numbers. Nice looking example that you have there! Thanks for sharing and for the info on the Balvar scope (I had never heard of it).

I was at a gun show not to long ago and saw a Model 7600 in 260 Rem. I looked in the Rem catalog and it wasn't in there, was this a small run? I was going to buy it but the guy selling it didn't want to do the paperwork and wanted 100$ to do the transfer.

You could get a 7600 in .260 from (where else?) Grices Wholesale in PA. In 1998 they did a run of 250 with a satin walnut stock and enhanced receiver. My reference only goes up to 2001 for 7600's and up until then they were not offered in the regular Remington catalog. Sounds like it might have been a keeper of a rifle...

That would have been a perfect one to pick up for my daughter!

Is that a question or a statement? I no longer have access to their site. Our company has deemed their site to be innapropriate (weapons/bombs)...

#$%&ing idiots.... They are constantly giving me crap about guns and hunting etc. Know what happens today? Apparently several town and state police including a helicopter are cruising the area in search of "an extrememly dangerous suspect." No one is allowed to leave the building. No one is allowed in, etc. In the director/manager/supervisor meeting we had to announce this, one of the senior directors asked me if I had a gun in my truck. I said "If I did, I'd be violating the comapny policy for weapons on company grounds, now wouldn't I?" They are all against guns 24/7 but put a little danger in their life and who do they run to...? Damn two-faced sons of whores......

Lucky for me I received a heads-up about this person and made a trip to my truck prior to the lock-down... Rules or not, I have a responsibilty to do everything in my power to get home safely for my wife and little girl.

Grice called today and the special orders are in....at least the 7mm-08 ones are. Hopefully it will ship out tomorrow and be here in time for me to take it hunting this weekend. I'll just sight her in with the open sights for now as I'll be hunting a small 1/4 acre food plot tucked back in the woods. The longest shot would be about 50 Yds.

Can't wait!!!! I'll post some pics when she gets here.
