Went out after work and checked my favorite fiddlehead spot, they’re just starting to come up and I picked enough for dinner. I like them best cooked, iced to make them cold and then tossed with a vinaigrette.
I will pick them several times so we can have them fresh and I always freeze a dozen or so packages so we can have them through the year.

I would think the deer would devour those morsels!

If they’re hungry enough they’ll eat anything but I don’t think fiddleheads are preferred. I’ve never seen any evidence of deer having been in there eating them and my spots are in areas with lots of deer.

They usually show up at my house the first few days of May. Looks like they may be a little earlier this year. I checked today and no sign of any.

I had pickled fiddleheads at hunting camp this year for the first time. I would have eaten the whole jar myself. Love them.
