I'm embarrassed to ask this question. How do you change the shell holder on a Lee Challenger press?

If you do not see a lock screw it probably has a spring lock and you can slide it out.

Never used that press but Lyman and RCBS slide in and out.
Thank you

There is a locking ring between the holder and the cam. I was able to get that ring out but have no idea how the shellhoder comes out. I have put pliers to it but am afraid I'll bend something. Seems like lee has holders that only fit Lee.

I looked at the directions , looks like it should slide out. Are spent primers backed up into the shell holder ,or rust holding it? If it won't move I would take a dowel and tap on it with a hammer. In the diagram it looks like it slides to the right.

Thanks for the help. The only way it can slide is up. I'll work on it tonight.

Did a little research ,it should slide in and out from the front. The ram has to be raised to allow the shell holder to slide out. Not familiar with that press but that's how all of mine work.

Just a quick update.

While the press came in a Challenger box, research on the net tells me it is a Classic press. I was given this press by my son's brother-in-law but it is in excellent condition. I still don't have the shell holder out and have emailed Lee. It is rather embarrassing and probably will be more so when I figure it out.

I'll try to post some pictures later.

Thanks again for all of the hel

Are you using the shell holder that comes with the lee dies ? The holder slides out sideways not up.

OK I'm thick. I don't see how anything slides to the side here.

Looks to me like no shell holder installed. My RCB looks similar when there is no shell holder.

Live and learn , nobody knows everything. By the way you don't have to remove the retainer to change out the holder.
