The way that is being said, and the way one detective answered questions in an article I read, made me think there is more to this incident than an accident. Not sure, and maybe reading too much into it.
I’m wondering the same. In a purely accidental incident negligent use of a firearm and reckless endangerment charges seem appropriate. Aggravated assault seems to imply intent.

You are much less likely to get shot by mistake when wearing orange than when you are not.

The part I find interesting here, and I've heard it over and over again, is that the guys that are opposed to wearing orange are passionately opposed to it.
X-Bolt, JDK, etc - is there a reason you hate it so much?
***My personal stance is that I don't care if people wear orange or not. If I shoot them, its my fault. I wear it and my kids wear it. (Not turkey hunting, duck hunting, etc)

I mostly didn’t wear orange until I started taking my kids into the woods and wanted to set an example, the same is true of wearing a seatbelt.
I wear orange because I have to but think I'm part Amish and hate bright solid colors. While I know that deer can't "see" orange they certainly can see solid blocks. This year, I'll be wearing orange camo
I hate when hunters wear orange around town. IMHO, it gives non-hunters the impression that hunting is more dangerous that it really is.
On a different note, and I'll get flamed. I sat through 2 hunters safety classes here in Maine with the kids. In both classes, it struck me that the instructors spent a lot of time,,,read a vast majority...talking about hunter orange and little time about identification. I instilled in both boys that not everyone in the woods in October and November is wearing orange so be 100% sure
As an aside, I don't normally wear camo either.
So 20 years or so ago I started hunting with a guy who is now my main hunting partner. We both wore red and black plaid wool coats with the same style hats and green or Malone colored wool pants. We use radios and got tired of saying to each other “see me? I see you!” So we went to orange hats and that stopped that. Then about 8-9 years ago I started hunting MA and a couple years ago ME, both states where orange hats and vests are required. Now it’s just my “kit”, so any firearm deer season in VT, NH, MA or ME, that’s what I wear. I actually like the extra pockets in the vest and I have not noticed any negative reaction from deer.

When these discussions come up I always think of Buckshot. RIP Ben. There’s been no one on this forum that loved and lived hunting more than him.

I see it all the time in VT. Guys will put orange vests and hats on their kids, wives and girlfriends but won't wear any themselves. Their choice, but I'll never understand why.

I agreee a 1,000%. I assume every noise I hear is another hunter. Not the moose, deer or bear I’m hunting .

I think of Ben and his friend as well. Two families impacted that way from two totally different reasons with identical outcomes.
