It was a tougher hunt than normal. I'll let Jeff (Wellsbowhunter67) tell his story. The Island received some snow the weeks before we got there but not enough for the deer to migrate to the ocean. The weather was warm and the deer had plenty to eat inland.

My daughter and I saw about 45 deer (9 bucks) in the 4 days of hunting. She was lucky enough to fill both of her tags with 6 pointers. One big 6 without brow tines and a smaller basket racked 6. Both deer we shot on the Pavillion River the 3rd day of our 4 day hunt.

I also shot a 6 pointer with no brow tines. My second tag was filled with a big mature baron doe with only a few minutes left of the hunt (had a mix up with my license and couldn't hunt the morning of the last day).

We left camp with a few unfilled tags but overall it was a great trip.

Where have guys from Western Maine been? Not the same here as it once was.
Beauty of a buck your daughter took, congrats to her. That's the only pic I get though.
Probably won't hear from you till next year this time, so I'll wish you and your family
a Merry Christmas and a Happy & Healthy New Year now.

Awesome stuff - love the pics and posts. I have never been there - but was curious do the deer taste any different up there?
I presume it is a very different diet with the seaweed and all the different minerals etc.

Thanks, I'm still here. I check in almost every day but I don't post a lot. Real busy with everything else going on. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you and your family also.

The deer taste much better than the Maine deer do. I've never met anyone who has tried both that doesn't think the Anticosti deer tastes better. They're diet definitely does make a difference.

First off, your pics are great, and as a father of a hunter too, I love when they do better than us, mostly. Anyway, we're the guys who hunted Jupiter La Mer Nov. 18-21. We also had pretty good results but a tough hunt all the same. In the 4 days we went out, we collectively saw fewer deer than you and your daughter saw. My son who shot the 10 pointer didn't see another deer the rest of the way. I also believe that the lack of snow and the warmer than seasonal weather were a huge factor. The rut was also not very intense. New York hunters had very similar experiences north and south.

I heard the rut wasn't very intense. That's unusual. I'm sure the warm weather had something to do with it. Makes me wonder if the buck/doe ratio is out of whack with this last winter kill. Too many does and not enough bucks. No need for bucks to compete for does to breed.
