Is it just my eyes, or does that barrel have a reddish tinge to it under whatever that coating is? Looks like a thin rust almost, and under the rear iron sight, it looks like rust bleeding out, doesn't it? I found that gun to be real interesting the first time he posted it, now it gives me a bit of concern! Anybody else think that looks like a rust issue? It's visible in the last two pictures....

I think the overall reddish appearance is just the way the gun was oiled and wiped and the way the light is hitting it. I do share your concern about what is bleeding out under that rear site.

I have no interest in that gun so just offering an opinion on your questions.

I doubt any part of that gun that is ceramicoated has rusted. However that rear sight is clearly bleeding rust on to the gun and in the process of oiling the gun that rust could have been spread onto the ceramicoat and somewhat stained it. That is what it looks like to me.

Yeah, I wouldn't have any interest in it either, even if I didn't have concerns. It's fun to get some offseason ideas from the computer and see what others have done. DL

That would be my guess too Arlow, but it seems like the whole barrel has a super-light reddish look to it. Maybe I'm wrong, don't know... That rear sight is definitely bleeding rust though.... DL

On a 7600? Heck, the tolerances on those are so sloppy any reputable gunsmith wouldn't even touch one...[/b]

I can see I've finally got you coming around to thinking straight now Rich.

I've been told that by two gunsmiths. One is Dan Cullity on Cape Cod who has made custom guns for presidents, and the other is a guy in Bradford, ME who worked for Winchester for his entire career. They both said that when you get a 7600/760/7400/742 that is not cycling properly, try changing the clips. If it isn't that it could be a myriad of issues, including several issues all at once, due to the fact that they are not machined to exacting tolerances. I love'em, but thats the word I got from two different well respected guys.... Gotta be something to it.
