Do any of you have any experience with this round? I'm seriously considering picking one up for my Son's first rifle. There are several compact bolt action options and factory ammo is readily available.

I have never used that caliber, but I can tell you that three or four guys that I work with love it. I have handled one of the rifles, and it felt really good. I have also since noticed that ammo, as you say, is very available and reasonable in orice.

I have a friend who bought one to take on a hunt to Iowa last year. He loves it, killed a huge buck with it, one shot at 120 yards using 160gr ammo. The ballistics are very similar to standard .30-30 ammo in both velocity and energy. The plus for your son is the availability in compact rifles. Go for it!

I must say that I am slightly annoyed with the hype around the 350 Legend...only because what you say is true...there are stacks of 350 Legend ammo everywhere and yet I have a hard time finding ammo. I even went into Walmart right before Christmas....and just out of curiosity looked at their ammo...yup...all they had were stacks of 350 Legend!...grumble, grumble, grumble....

Not as interesting in the east where we can use bottleneck cartridges, so I was surprised that someone had a 350 legend at bear camp in Maine. It was a father/son team, and dad went first. I think they figured if the son got a chance, he'd want the light recoil.

I was surprised and impressed with how it performed on bear. Yes, they were close, but still, it did the job. Not every bear hunter is worthy of the .338 Federal, so it worked well for them.

VTBuck is also very right about the ammo. I see it everywhere, at nice low prices. You can take that one of two ways: 1) Its not very popular, or 2) Its being pushed hard.

Makes me wonder what the fate of 360 Buckhammer will be (God, I hate these new ammo names).

Just a guess but I doubt individual stores are making the decision about what ammunition to stock. Probably most every store gets the same stuff and the reason it’s in stock here is because there’s not much demand.
