    Dog was attacked...by what though?

So hard to tell, not knowing the size of the dog. Nice to see the vets put in proper drains so it doesn't abscess.

    Maine Moose Lottery

60 points is awesome! I just looked up the point system and realized that I completely screwed up my numbers. I’ve been applying since 2005, so looks like I’m at 42 points. Sounds much better!

21 points for me, so who knows, might get lucky this year. Did point only option last year, since I went and hunted elk.

    Boot Recommendations

In Colorado I wore I uninsulated 8” hiking boots with a good pair of gaiters. Firsts day was -3 temps and over a foot of snow but my feet felt great all day. I’ve learned not to drive to my hunting spot in my boots as my feet will sweat and I carried an extra pair of wool socks to change into...

What season are you talking and what kind of hiking? You need support while hiking and you also don’t want your feet to sweat on the way in.

What do you drink after hunting?

I’ve had Rochefort and definitely had Chimay. Monks made good beer! Lived in North Wales for three years after the Navy playing rugby and going to school so really like the traditional ales and bitters as well.

What do you drink after hunting?

Normal post hunt beverage is a couple light beers before bed, and I leave the IPA alone. Once there’s weight on the game pole, I like a good scotch or Irish whiskey...

    Scouting maps

You need cell service or wifi to initially download maps of the region you are hunting. These vary in size from 5 miles, 10 miles, or 150 miles wide, depending on what resolution you want. The 5 mile of course has the best resolution even though 10 works fine and you can download multiple maps...

    Scouting maps

OnX all the way. I leave the GPS at home now, and it's so nice to scout on the computer and have the marks automatically show up on the phone app.

    New to hunting...Advice?

You definitely do not need much to start hunting whitetail deer, and there's a lot of post on this site that go into what rifle, what's in our fanny/day pack, scouting tips, clothing, etc. Like 80-603 said, spring is a great time to get familiar with areas, and it's also a great time to fish...

    Timberframe House Build

Travis, That’s some mad skills, and a beautiful home! It’s like a piece of art work, even down to notching out where the electrical will sit. I’ve got to stop by and see it sometime when I’m up that way.

If you could only have ONE big game rifle?

Out of my current collection, it would be my Browning A-bolt hunter 300WSM. Love my pumps, but this thing can pretty much do it all.

    What would you do different?

$100 is good. I was thinking more like $200, which is what I was quoted at Napa When looking for chains in Colorado this fall.

    What would you do different?

You’ll pay at least double for a set at Napa.

    What would you do different?

Even with just snow, enough back and forth travel will turn the ruts icy, especially if things warm up a bit in the day. With proper tensioners and adjusting, I can get chain pretty snug on my tires and easily do 30mph safely. The first time you slide down a tote road sideways with the dark...
