    Second Week Bear

Sounds fun despite not connecting with one, but at least you had some activity. Having gone on my first bear hunt this fall, I have a completely different perspective on that type of hunting. I’m not much of a sitter in general, but man the excitement of waiting was intense.

    Little of this and that

We are zone 8, which only has one week for bulls starting on Columbus Day. Little late for intense rut action I feel, but will make the best. Looking at the medium term temps up north for week one, I guess I’m sorta happy as the Sept week could be a scorcher.

I’ll be sure to take lots of pictures and share, unless we don’t get one and my wife leaves me for dead up there on the side of mountain.

Bull moose Wilderness Adventures in Springfield. My daughter won a raffle for a youth day hunt and it was an awesome thing. Really great owners, that had land leases and baits all over that country. Bears were really active on the baits. I wish we would have connected, but I plan to take her...

    Little of this and that

Friday doe permits were drawn. My wife and daughter both got two bonus permits each on top of their regular buck/any deer permit allowing them 6 deer combined. My other daughter and I got bonus tags also, so combined we have 10 tags! Hope to put ONE in the freezer. My youngest will be hunting...

Continue to scout for moose on foot and cameras, find our home base to camp, and lots of shooting. My wife and daughter are pretty much a better shot than I. They have really become comfortable with their rifles. Switched over to the federal Barnes TSX.

Forum appears slow, so I’ll post an update on our fall. My oldest and I did a one day bear hunt in eastern Maine and it was really fun to have her experience the whole thing despite us not getting a bear. She got to hear the stories in camp, bounce around in the truck, practice shooting, etc...

    Shooting Tripod

Bog makes good equipment. On our recent bear hunt the guide had a few of that brand’s rest and seat combos as well as a few standalone rifle rests. That said I have a cabelas brand single stick and a bipod for my kids. No complaints.

That is a great area, who are you using for a guide service?

We will be up for the 3rd week for bear

Good luck. Seems like lots of bears and they are active, at least in eastern me. I went on a youth day hunt with my daughter. We did not see a bear, but the party on either side of our bait, mile on each direction both shot at, but did not recover bears. One group had like 3 or 4 moving around...

Deer rifle for youth/ short shooters

Makes sense, they all feel different. The reports and articles said the kimbers in general have a different design and feel of the stock between the handle area and the trigger reach too compared to most rifles. I have never held one, but at somepoint it’s on my dream list to get one if it fits...

What guns do you own that have a longer LOP than 13.6? I quickly looked through all the regular bolt guns like browning, rem, win, etc and it appears that 13.5 is the standard. I couldnt find anything longer.

Deer rifle for youth/ short shooters

i have exactly one non muzzleloader with a barrel over 20 inches. Absolutely love the carbine size for my type of hunting and size. Only issue I think I may have is the LOP which is 13.5 inches. All of mine are 13 and under for the most part

    What's a shooter to you/Season goals?

When you are a bad hunter you can’t be picky! That is what my wife tells me. I tell myself every year that I am only going to shoot a 200 pounder right up until I see a spike horn.

If you don’t mind synthetic, there are options out there. I have a set like this on one of mine. shop.hoosiergunworks.com/in-store/champion-gun-stocks-2754/remington-model-760-7600-stock-set-black-synthetic-2754646

Do some research, but I am also certain the Remington 1100 youth stock bolts right on. Some old threads on this site talk about it from years ago.
